It’s a new year.

People make it a big deal,

People make all sorts of resolutions

And try to blur the line between expectations and what’s real.

People wish things for themselves,

They wish things for others,

They put unfinished business on old shelves

And forget them there in clusters…

(So they can focus on “the new”)

On New Year’s Eve people focus on introspection,

As if Rome was built in one day!!

It’s a new year.

But I don’t wish anyone change

Because we all just need some adjustment.

Don’t shut the door on your “old” self,

Don’t make it all about advertisement,

You’re only due to prove things to yourself!

It’s a new year.

Don’t focus on creating an image but on setting an example,

Do what makes you happy at school/work and at home and only then post about it!

If you want to share with people, share an actual sample

Of what happiness looks like – the world needs that bit!

It might as well not be a new year.

Question yourself every single day

Until you find your own way

Of being truly happy

And being who you want to be.

And then don’t forget to share it with others,

But not necessarily on Facebook and Instagram

But with your friends and your parents, with your sisters and brothers…
