66.

We all have some moments that define or change us for life,
That we'll always remember, forever.

My grandpa was a feisty one, and he had his share of trouble,
If there'd be a chance for a fight, he'd sometimes make it double,
He'd fight with his neighbour and he'd curse a lot,
He'd be a lovely man, most of the times, but sometimes he'd not.
I remember that one day my grandpa was hurt
'Cause he'd hit the other man and that man kicked grandpa down in the dirt,
I was a little kid, probably 8 or 9 years old
And my grandpa was thinking of revenge, which made my blood go cold.
And I remember thinking then about what my teacher had said,
That we should always treat others kindly, even when they treat us bad,
That we should be the greater person and never fight fire with fire
And her words rang in my head because I felt so inspired.
So I went to my grandpa and I told him that lesson
And I saw in his eyes how his anger would lessen
And I saw how his eyes were filling with tears.
I simply told my grandpa to make peace with it all,
To use his time better, to spend it with us, for as much as I recall,
That next time he meets his neighbour just greet him with a kind word
Because hatred eats you inside and that's just absurd.
Then my grandpa told me that what I hold between my ears
And what beats in my chest
Make me so much greater than so many, make me the best,
He told me I was wiser, so much wiser than him
And that he'd do things differently, he'd be different than he'd been.

Well, of course people don't change, at least not just like that,
But I'll always remember that day and how good it made me feel,
I'll remember that kindness is the only that can make one heal...
